BANGALORE: Speakers at a meeting on "Secularism and communalism in the light of the recent political developments in the country and the State" held here on Monday said there is a dire need to form a third front to fight "the despotic Congress and the communal BJP." The meeting was organised by the Federation of Secular and Pro-People Organisations. The former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the future of State and the country would be bleak if like-minded democratic and secular forces fail to unite. Launching a broadside against the Janata Dal (Secular) President, H.D. Deve Gowda, and BJP leaders, he said he is concerned over what he called the politics indulged in by Mr. Deve Gowda to anoint his son H.D. Kumaraswamy as the Chief Minister. "One should know that the BJP is ready to suffer insults and ignominy for the first 20 months for the sake of its hidden agenda. No one need wonder if it will allow Mr. Kumaraswamy to continue as Chief Minister even for 20 months. The undisclosed purpose of the communal party is to expand and fortify its base in the State," he said. Participants in the meeting included K. Ramdas, B. Siddaiah, Banjagere Jayaprakash and Kadidal Shamanna.
