MEG draws with CIL
Hamar's goal in the 79th minute helped MEG avoid the blushes and salvage a 2-2 draw against CIL in a George Hoover Cup super division league match at the football stadium here on Tuesday. Lokeshwar Singh scored MEG's first goal while Sagar and Shyam Kumar scored for CIL. The draw helped MEG draw alongside league topper HAL. Both teams have 18 points from eight matches. And the league champion will be decided on February 25 when HAL will clash with MEG in their ninth and final match. Earlier, P.G. Raju's hat-trick (29th, 70th and 82nd mins) went in vain as AGORC suffered a 3-5 defeat against LRDE, which thrived on Govinda (2), Satish (2) and Karthik's efforts.
No State team for Senior National TT
The Karnataka Table Tennis Association (KTTA), for the first time, has failed to field a women's team for the senior National table tennis championship which got underway at Jaipur from Tuesday. The KTTA has sent only a five member men's team, spearheaded by the State champion Uday S. Athreya. Explaining its predicament, the KTTA Secretary, Mr. G.N. Satyanarayana told The Hindu that all the leading women players including champion B.M. Ashwini, were busy preparing for their examinations and had opted out of the championship. "There was no point in fielding a depleted squad for the event and hence we were forced to scrap the team for the senior Nationals," he said.
