KADAPA: Artillery Water Sports Association (AWSA) dominated the kayaking races of the Kadapotsavam at the Pathakadapa Cheruvu here on Tuesday. It was a golden double for the Artillery Centre, Golconda-based unit, as it posted authoritative wins in the kayak single and double events. Long, steady, shoulder-height strokes saw Rathish R. Nair move to the fore early in the single race. That lead he sustained, facing no serious challenge till the finish, his approach prevailing against the shorter strokes adopted by his rivals. If Rathish's victory was resounding, the pair of K.S. Srijith and Tinto Thomas underscored their squad's superiority even more. In the kayak double, they raced to the line nearly 10 seconds ahead of second placed Vishnuvardhan Reddy and K. Anjaneyulu of A.P. Police. Watching their squad emerge triumphant were coach Antony Joseph, himself a former National championship gold-medallist and Lt. Col. Nasser Hussain Dubey, secretary of AWSA. The results (all 200 m): K-1: 1. Rathish R. Nair (AWSA) 58.88 secs. 2. P. Krishna Rao (APP) 1:01.86 mins. 3. K. Nagarjuna (ASA) 1:03.34; K-2: 1. K.S. Srijith & Tinto Thomas (AWSA) 52.32 secs. 2. P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy & K. Anjaneyulu (APP) 1:01.57 mins. 3. A. Sampath & P.V. Shravan Kumar (ASA) 1:07.73 mins; C-1: 1. V.N. Srinivas (APP) 1:13.20 mins. 2. P. Sushil Kumar (ASA) 1:24.33 mins; C-2: 1. Balayogi & V.N. Sharma (APP) 1:02.57 mins. 2. P. Sushil Kumar & Prasanna 1:05.69 mins.
