Kurukshetra in quarterfinals

KOLKATA: Kurukshetra University and Devi Ahilya University, Indore progressed to the quarterfinals of the all-India inter-university cricket for women here. In two pre-quarterfinal matches played on Tuesday, Kurukshetra beat Jammu by 45 runs while Devi Ahilya thrashed Gujarat by 10 wickets.

The top four teams of the last year — Guru Nanak Dev (Amritsar), Pune, Osmania (Hyderabad) and the host Calcutta, have received direct seeding to the quarterfinals. Mumbai, L.N.I.P.E (Gwalior), B.R. Ambedkar (Agra) and Rajasthan have made it to the pre-quarterfinals. The final is scheduled to be played on February 27.

The scores: Pre-quarterfinals: Gujarat 104 in 44.3 overs (Ruchita three for 10) lost to Devi Ahilya 108 for no loss in 13.2 overs (Ritika 58); Kurukshetra 141 in 36.4 overs (Surabhi Dadhechi five for 49) bt Jammu 96 in 23.1 overs.

Second round: Mumbai 248 for five in 37 overs (Yogita Dhulap 60) bt Punjabi Patiala 69 in 19 overs; L.N.I.P.E 118 in 31.3 overs bt Vinoba Bhave 87 in 36.4 overs; B.R. Ambedkar 187 for six in 40 overs (Radhika 88) bt Jiyaji 122 in 29.4 overs (Shipra Bhatnagar five for 29). — Sports Reporter
