PONDICHERRY: A five-member delegation of the Unified Action Committee of Ministerial Staff of Pondicherry Government had discussions with Lt Governor M.M. Lakhera at Rajnivas here on Tuesday (even as the staff continued their strike in support of their twin demands of restructuring of posts of clerks and Assistants and for upward revision of emoluments). A spokesperson of the committee told The Hindu later that Mr. Lakhera promised the delegation that a Cadre Review Committee would be formed and a separate Secretary would be assigned with the work of addressing grievances of the ministerial staff and to find solution. The administration would also consider payment of patient care allowance as insisted by them working in health institutions. A delegation of Pondicherry Government officials would be deputed to New Delhi to hold discussions with the Central Ministries for revision of pay and allowances for them retrospectively in keeping with their representation. The committee sources said that the outcome of the meeting would be discussed with its functionaries on Wednesday for follow up decision (on continuation or otherwise of the strike). A high-ranking official said in the meanwhile that there was strong indication that the ministerial staff would resume duty on Wednesday.
