Pondicherry: Members of the Pondicherry Region Auto Owners and Drivers (affiliated to CITU) took out a rally in Pondicherry on Tuesday and held a demonstration at the Assembly premises urging the Administration to convert the Society for the Welfare of the Auto Drivers into a Welfare Board.

Those who addressed the demonstrators included the CITU leader V.Perumal, the member of the Tamilnadu CPI (M)'s executive Committee member T. Murugan and secretary of the Union of the Auto Drivers Srinivasan.

They also demanded availability of fuel at subsidised price. They highlighted the hardship they faced in respect of insurance premium payment.

The autos registered in Pondicherry should also face no practical difficulty in operating in neighbouring State districts, Murugan said.
