Special Correspondent

Pondicherry unit awaiting high command decision

Pondicherry : The Pondicherry Bharatiya Janata Party unit president R. Kesavalu said though there was a possibility of aligning with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the Assembly elections here, the State unit was awaiting the decision of the high command.

Addressing newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that a detailed report had been submitted to the party president Rajnath Singh for him to decide on alliance or otherwise.

He said that as per the high command's directive the local committee would receive applications from those aspiring to contest the polls from March 5 to 9 at the party office here.

Rajnath to visit

The BJP leader, Venkaiah Naidu, would address party workers here on March 9, while the national council president Mr. Rajnath Singh would address a joint meeting on March 19.

Mr. Kesavalu appealed to the Chief Minister to announce the scrapping of the Common Entrance Test for admission to professional courses for 2006- 2007.

He alleged that unnecessary confusion was being caused by the Government in implementing the scheme for in the free distribution scheme of stoves and subsidised cooking gas (LPG) cylinders to the poor.

His charge on LPG

As long as families presented the red colour cards in support of their eligibility as belonging to the `below poverty line' category there was no point in following a selective approach for distribution of the benefits, he charged.

He also sought the immediate settlement of the demands of the ministerial staff as their three-month strike had caused disruption of work.
