TIRUCHI: With just about 10 days to go for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's State conference at Tiruchi, a focal point in the run-up to the Assembly elections, party president Karunanidhi on Tuesday inspected the arrangements. Accompanied by DMK deputy general secretary M.K. Stalin and senior party functionaries he flew down from Chennai and drove to the conference venue close to the airport. He spent 20 minutes at the sprawling grounds, inspecting the concrete dais, the massive pandal being erected and the façade. Mr. Karunanidhi, who made enquiries with DMK district secretary K.N. Nehru on the finer details, seemed satisfied with the works. A large number of DMK cadres thronged the airport and accompanied Mr. Karunanidhi to the venue. The mood was upbeat among them.
Sonia Gandhi coming
Apart from being a show of strength, the conference will also be keenly watched by the Democratic Progressive Alliance partners as the allocation of seats is to be announced during the event. The participation of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, which was confirmed by Mr. Karunanidhi on Tuesday, will be an added attraction for Congressmen. The conference will be preceded by the DMK general council meet on March 3.
