Special Chief Electoral Officer appointed

CHENNAI: In another indication of how seriously the Election Commission is taking the Assembly elections, a Special Chief Electoral Officer, Public (Elections) Department, was appointed on Tuesday.

The Chief Secretary issued an order appointing Chandra Prakash Singh, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, to the new post.

Election Commission sources said Mr. Singh's work as observer during the Bihar elections prompted his appointment to the post for assisting in the electoral process, especially because of the present workload.
