KADAPA: CPI(M) will undertake a 500-km-long padayatra in Kadapa district from March 5 to 26 demanding comprehensive development of the district. Natural resources should be tapped to set up industries and development of agriculture, irrigation facilities, schools and hospitals and other basic infrastructure should be ensured in all areas in the district, CPI(M) district Secretary B. Narayana told a press conference here on Tuesday. The district committee meeting decided that partymen should draw the Government's attention to unresolved problems, he said. Mr. Narayana demanded revival of age-old tanks which silted over decadesand checkdams built to store water. Fluoride content in water and paucity of drinking water should be tackled, he said. The padayatra would commence at Vontimitta on March 5 and would culminate at Kadapa on March 26, he said. It would be an apolitical agitation to chalk out an action programme to pressure the Government and official machinery to provide basic infrastructure, he said.
