PCC president hails budget

Special Correspondent

Dismisses criticism by Opposition, says thrust on rural economy

Hyderabad: APCC president K. Keshava Rao dismissed the Opposition ire against the Government's Budget as `unfounded and irrational' here on Tuesday. The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) too welcomed the budget on similar lines at a separate press conference.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr. Keshava Rao said the budget was a dream come true as the Chief Minister had put it as it envisaged giving a thrust to the rural economy. The budget did not lay any burden on the people in the form of taxes nor had neglected the social welfare sector as was being alleged.

He said there were two distinct components to the Budget - one a direct allocation to the welfare segment and the second an indirect benefit to the weaker sections in the form of massive housing programme and Indiramma programme. The purchasing power of the farmers would go up as a result of the thrust given to the farm sector and irrigation, he said.

Government Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, added the Government's concern for the Backward Classes and the other deprived sections was evident in the higher allocations.
