Special Correspondent

Gade Venkat Reddy takes the lead

  • Coastal MLAs worried over decision to implement report
  • TDP MLAs in contact with them
  • Seek justice to non-locals

Hyderabad: Expressing concern over the Government decision to implement the Girglani Commission report in toto, nine Congress MLAs of coastal Andhra met here on Tuesday to discuss the fallout of the decision on non-locals.

The move was initiated by senior Congress MLA, Gade Venkat Reddy, who is eliciting the opinion of the non-Telangana region leaders.

    Main demand

Demanding that the State capital be declared a `free zone,' the MLAs will be meeting the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to seek an assurance that the non-locals would not be thrown out unjustly.

Mr. Venkat Reddy is also in contact with the senior Telugu Desam leaders of coastal Andhra who have reportedly extended support to his moves in this direction.

The meeting was attended by V. Vasantha Kumar, Ch. Venkat Rao, M. Buddha Prasad, R. Surya Prakasa Rao, P. Satyanarayana, K. Satyanarayana, S. Udaya Bhanu and E. Pratap Reddy.

Mr.Venkat Reddy said any effort to implement the commission report was welcome but it should not trouble the non-locals working here.

If needed, supernumerary posts should be created to accommodate them.

The TDP leaders of Krishna, Guntur, East Godavari and East Godavari districts have already contacted Mr. Reddy in this regard and agreed with the proposal.

"We are not against anyone's interest. Our concern is that non-locals should not become instant oustees in the process of implementing the report. Let's keep the sensitivities in view before making any move lest it ruffles regional emotions," Mr. Venkat Reddy said.
