CHENNAI:
Under-graduate students of physics learnt to service domestic appliances at the Quaid-E-Millat College for Women on Friday and Saturday.
Domestic wiring, power supplies, kitchen appliances, household equipment and entertainment equipment were covered in a two-workshop, `FIXIT,' organised by the Department of Physics in the college.
The workshop was doubly useful for students as electricity was a part of the syllabus and they were also told of entrepreneurship opportunities in setting up service outlets, said a press release.
The workshop was inaugurated by M. Dhanushkodi, principal, Presidency College. Satiq Batcha, service head, consumer electronics, Phillips India Limited, gave a special lecture on servicing tips.
In his valedictory address, V. Subramanian, head of the department of electrical engineering, Central Polytechnic, spoke about the current power scenario and the precautions to be taken while servicing appliances.
Mr. Subramanian and Vijaya Parthasarathy, former head of the department of botany, Stella Maris College, distributed certificates to the participants.
