Jewellery, cash stolen from house

Burglars strike when inmates are away

TAMBARAM: Gold jewels weighing 10 sovereigns and Rs. 5,000 in cash were burgled from a house on 27th Street in Thillai Ganga Nagar on Monday when the family members were away.

Police said Manjula, an employee of the Public Works Department and her son, a bank staff, had gone out. When they returned in the evening, they found the door broken open. Burglars had ransacked the house and took away the valuables. The Adambakkam police are investigating.

Freak accident

At South Bhaktavatsalam Nagar near Pazhavanthangal, a 13-year-old girl died while she was playing at her house on Tuesday. Kamakshi, was running around her house when the `dupattah' she was wearing around her neck got caught in the window grille.

She choked to death as the dupattah entangled and strangled her throat.
