HYDERABAD: Five childhood friends, hailing from Guntur and working in software field in different States and the US launched a website www.friends2support.org to help save lives through timely blood donation. Launched in November, 2005, the website has over 2,000 registered blood donors and gives information about their blood group, permanent address and contact numbers. The desire to serve society was the common factor among the city-based website designer Sheikh Shareef and his friends -- Naveen Reddy, S. Koteswara Rao, Phani Kethamakka and Murali Krishna -- that prompted them to launch the website. Working in different cities like Mysore, Chennai, Bangalore and the US, their aim is to ensure an accident victim or one undergoing major surgery gets blood of required group, including a rare one, without delay. "We launched the website to give fillip to voluntary blood donation programme. Precious time is lost in running from pillar to post arranging for blood. For a person deeply worried with the critical condition of near and dear, a website offering comprehensive information about donors would be a great relief," says Shareef. The website besides allowing one to post a request for blood donation, register oneself as a donor, member and offers a list of over 2,000 hospitals country-wide. "Our aim is to enlist 25,000 voluntary blood donors in the State and then focus on other States," he says.
