Abolition of SAT notified

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Centre has notified the abolition of the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) in Tamil Nadu, the Madras High Court has been told. The Centre issued a notification on February 17, 2006.

A submission to this effect was made before a Division Bench of Justice M. Karpagavinayagam and Justice C. Nagappan, when a contempt of court plea initiated by Service Bar Association president L. Chandrakumar against State and Central authorities came up for hearing on Tuesday. The Union Secretary for the Department of Personnel and Training said the notification was issued on February 17 after the Supreme Court declined to stay a Madras High Court order. The Bench closed the contempt proceedings and absolved the officials of contempt charges.
