Four FOBs hit highway authority roadblock

Structure near HPS is likely to be erected in the next 15 days

  • Officials inspect proposed FoB sites
  • Work at Dilsukhnagar is at an advanced stage
  • Foundation work is on at Mehdipatnam

HYDERABAD: While the Foot Over Bridge (FoB) coming up near the Hyderabad Public School (HPS) in Begumpet is likely to be erected in 15 days or so, four other FoBs have run into objections by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). MCH officials including Commissioner Sanjay Jaju, Additional Commissioner (Traffic & Transportation) N.V.S. Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A.K. Khan and senior RTC officials inspected FoB sites for a review in the city on Tuesday.

    Glitches

The foundation work for Begumpet FoB has been completed recently and the structure was originally planned to be completed last month though three months time was given for private parties to construct it during the Fund Your City auction held late last year.

But, a design deficiency was noticed at the last minute that led to some delay and also road widening at the stretch. Now, officials are confident that it would be the first of the blocks. The NHAI is said to have objected to FoBs at Nampally, Dilsukhnagar, Mehdipatnam and Ameerpet as they fall under the main highway and fear traffic problems.

However, Mr. Reddy said that each FoB was designed to be erected at a height of the mandatory 5.5 metres, which should be the acceptable norm. "In any case we have told NHAI that these structures could be easily dismantled and put elsewhere if the situation arises," he said.

The Indian Road Congress has already suggested that such structures can be put up to height of five metres and efforts were on to convince the NHAI, he said. Four FoB structures were ready for erection at their design centre in Bangalore.

Work at Dilsukhnagar was at an advanced stage, foundation work was on at Mehdipatnam while Rasoolpura FoB is to come up in 45 days.
