HYDERABAD:
Routine vehicle checking helped Rajendranagar police catch a labourer Anji Reddy, 40, who is suspected to be a serial killer, on Tuesday. The man in question was travelling in a three-wheeler when police party intercepted it near Durganagar. "We smelt a rat when his expressions changed on seeing us. When checked, some ornaments apparently belonging to a woman were found in his clothes," Rajendranagar Inspector Ch. Srinivas told The Hindu . On further questioning, Reddy maintained that he, his relative Venkat Reddy and a friend Jaipal Reddy had killed a woman last night at a secluded place near local TNGO's colony and the jewellery belonged to the victim.
According to him, the woman, Saroja of L.B. Nagar, had taken a loan of Rs. 50,000 from Venkat Reddy, but refused to return the amount. As a result, Venkat Reddy hatched a plan to eliminate her and the trio lured her to a party to TNGO's Colony, offered her toddy and strangled her to death with her sari. "Our enquiries revealed that Anji Reddy was convicted for murdering an old woman for money in Dindi of Nalgonda district 15 years ago and had come out after a jail term," the Inspector explained.
<167,0p,1>The suspect confessed to have killed two prostitutes in 2002, but police said they were yet to ascertain the facts.
