HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police on Tuesday had let off the Oman national Mohd. Hasan Al Balushi, 59, against whom a cheating case was booked for marrying a poor woman of Old City allegedly against her wishes. "There is no incriminating evidence against him. Balushi got consent from the bride's family, the bride is not minor and around 28 years of age, there are no complainants and we booked the case suo moto," said Reinbazar Inspector M. Malla Reddy. Showing a letter written in Arabic, Balushi claimed that he had secured permission from the Oman Government to marry a girl of his choice from India and it was communicated to the Indian embassy there. Police who seized Balushi's passport and visa said the letter had a seal of Indian embassy, but its genuineness was yet to be ascertained. Investigators had decided to write to the Wakf Board if the marriage of Balushi with Munni Sultana of Nawabasabkunta was permissible under Muslim Personal Law since a Qazi performed it. Police learnt that Sultana's elder sister got married to another Oman national Taleb Jumma Shivakal Asabedi, who accompanied Balushi to India, a few years ago. Sultana's sister is presently living in Oman. Munni Sultana, in her statement with the police, said that her marriage with Balushi took place with her consent. Police will file a petition in the court to record her statement before the magistrate under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code. Her father was paralytic and mother worked as maid. Sultana was fifth of the couple's eight children. Two of her other married sisters have got divorced. Presently, she and her parents are living in a house, which was gifted by Asabedi to her sister. Sultana has two unmarried sisters while her younger brother is an auto-rickshaw driver. Investigation revealed that Balushi, in the letter given by Oman Government, mentioned that he already had three wives. However, he stated in the `Nikahnama' with Sultana, that he was marrying for the first time.
