Coimbatore: Over 1.75 lakh landline phone subscribers of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Coimbatore Secondary Switching Area (SSA) are waiting indefinitely for their telephone bills. The bill, dated February 7, should have reached them by February 12-15. But they are yet to get the bills. Enquiries with the authorities revealed that, the BSNL was switching over to DOTSOFT software for making it more subscribers-friendly. Meanwhile, the subscribers are cursing the BSNL authorities for keeping them in dark even without communicating the delay in despatch of bills. The Secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause, K. Kathirmathiyon, points out that in a mass service industry like telecom, when there is a problem of general nature affecting the entire subscriber base, BSNL authorities are duty bound to keep the public informed to avoid unnecessary anxiety. Meanwhile, a BSNL official says there is no need for any anxiety as bills are viewable on the computer at the customer service centres now and the hardcopies of the bills have already been despatched. It would reach the subscribers soon, he said. The due date for payment had already been extended up to March 8 so that the subscribers would get enough time.
