HYDERABAD: The State Government has decided to allocate an additional Rs. 150 crore subsidy for the Civil Supplies Department for taking up distribution of rice under the public distribution system for ration cardholders. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is learnt to have directed the State Finance Corporation to release the amount to the department with immediate effect. The allocation is in addition to the Rs. 550 crore subsidy provided for rice distribution during the current financial year. Dr. Reddy reportedly instructed the officials to cover an additional 10 per cent population in the distribution of white ration cards and complete the process within two months. The Government had so far provided ration cards to 31 lakh new families and the distribution of white ration cards throughout the State, except Hyderabad, was expected to be completed before April 30. The Government is understood to have decided to set up four to five data photo lamination centres in each mandal and the multipurpose data generated for the issue of ration cards could be used for all the schemes like Indiramma, housing and rural employment guarantee scheme.
