BHOPAL: Senior ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and former State Minister Gauri Shankar Shejwar on Wednesday said that the Central Parliamentary Board of the party had no power under the party constitution to nominate Shivraj Singh Chauhan for the Chief Minister's post and demanded that the party leadership take steps to ensure the expelled leader, Uma Bharti's return to the party fold. Dr. Shejwar was addressing a press conference, flanked by four suspended party MLAs, Rasal Singh, Sunil Nayak, Jalam Singh Patel and Hakam Singh Chadhar, at his residence here. He said Ms. Bharti had a mass following and was getting support from all sides. "It is a positive development that the party president Rajnath Singh and three other senior party leaders, Kalyan Singh, Kalraj Mishra and Kailash Joshi, have given indication that Ms. Bharti's entry into the BJP could be considered if she expressed willingness," he added. To a pointed query, he said that Ms. Bharti's entry into the party was an issue that would have to be decided by the party leadership and Ms. Bharti. Dr. Shejwar said that it was the prerogative of the legislators to elect their leader and BJP's Central Parliamentary Board did not have the powers to announce the legislature party leader. He said that Ms. Bharti had only cited the party's constitution and asserted that there should be an election to elect the legislature party leader in the presence of central observers appointed by the Parliamentary Board.
