CHANDIGARH: Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has ordered suspension of a Superintendent of Nabha jail and Station House Officer (SHO) of the Batala city police station along with three of his subordinates for their alleged involvement in two separate incidents of atrocities. Making an announcement during zero hour in the Punjab Assembly, Capt. Singh said that SHO Kirpal Singh, an ASI and two constables of Batala city police station had been suspended after registering a case of murder against them under section 302 of the IPC. They were charged of a custodial killing on Monday night. The victim who was identified as Hardeep Singh was arrested along with his brother on charges of theft. He succumbed to the injuries sustained during the brutal torture which was afflicted by the accused. The Chief Minister also ordered the suspension of Jail Superintendent and some other staff of the Nabha jail who were charged with using heated iron bars to brand a Dalit under- trial, Narinder Singh. The victim brought to light the abuse he was subjected to when he was produced before the Additional Sessions Judge at Ropar on Tuesday morning. Narinder, who had been lodged in the Nabha jail for the last four years, is facing trial in a murder case. Capt Singh said that though it was his desire to immediately dismiss the errant officers and personnel for committing such heinous crimes, the rules prevented him from doing so. However, he assured the House of exemplary punishment against the guilty.
