HYDERABAD: The State Government on Wednesday admitted that an extent of 1,266 acres of land in the city and another 3,091 acres in the adjoining Ranga Reddy district were encroached by land-grabbers. Replying to a question in the Assembly, Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao said 425 cases were booked against land-grabbers in the city and 323 in Ranga Reddy district. Demolitions were taken up in the city to recover 162 acres, including encroachments on nalas. Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi disputed the version of the Minister and said, in fact, 7,125 acres were encroached in the city and Ranga Reddy. The cost of the land was Rs. 25,000 crores. He wanted the Government to convene a meeting with city MLAs to address the problem.
Land for hardware firms
To another question, Mines and IT Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy said that the Government had allotted 475 acres to hardware companies in the city. It included 300 acres earmarked for Special Economic Zone. The allotment was in addition to a hardware park envisaged over 1,000 acres. Cooperation and Transport Minister Kanna Laxminarayana said that the State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) proposed to lease out the old premises of its headquarters at Musheerabad to private builders to establish a multiplex and small industries.
