NIGHTMARISH DRIVE: Traffic at the busy over bridge near the Ernakulam Junction railway station on a weekday. Photo: H. Vibhu
There are no signs of relief for traffic managers in the city. The district is learnt to be topping the list in most number of vehicles in the State. Even while the number of vehicles being brought to the road increases daily, the infrastructure remains the same. Neither the traffic police nor the district administration is in a position to do anything. On their part, the traffic police tried to implement some innovative concepts, such as maintaining busy stretches of main roads as model roads and choosing efficient policemen, to ease traffic snarls. On the other hand, the district administration finds its hands tied owing to paucity of funds. Efforts are on to tap private sponsors for taking up traffic projects. Either way, there seems to be no permanent solution for commuters in the city.
