Psychotropic substance seized

KOLLAM: Acting on a tip off, a team led by Karunagapally Excise Range Circle Inspector B. Suresh seized 50 ampules of bubnenorphine, a psychotropic substance from a person who was travelling in a KSRTC bus to Kollam on Thursday night.

Mr. Suresh said the seizure was made while the bus was stationed at the Karunagapally KSRTC depot.

The man carrying the drugs was arrested and his identity was given as Cheriyan alias Mohanan, a native of Thiruvalla. Mohanan told the police that he was a carrier and the drug was to be delivered to someone in Tangassery.

The drugs were handed over to him by one Pradeep at Thiruvalla.

The Excise team is trying to identify Pradeep and the man at Tangassery who was supposed to receive the drugs. Mr. Suresh said the tip off was given by the Excise Intelligence Inspector of Pathanamthitta E. Harikrishna Pillai. Mohanan was produced before a court at Karunagapally and remanded.
