Software in all major languages soon: Sonia

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: The Centre's initiative to make available software, aimed at enabling all Indians to be equal partners in the information technology revolution, would soon cover all major languages, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Thursday.

Laying the foundation stone for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat of the Goa Government at Dona Paula near here, she described information technology as a major instrument of social transformation. The Centre was planning to use IT to monitor the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme. Coupled with the Right to Information Act, IT could be a major tool to ensure transparency in the functioning of the Government.

Goa IT Minister Dayanand Narvekar said the project of the state-owned Info Tech Corporation of Goa Limited, estimated to cost more than Rs. 400 crore, would come up on 95 acres. While the Government provided land and other facilities, IT entrepreneurs and developers would take the project forward.
