Hyderabad: Coastal Andhra Congress MLAs belonging to Scheduled Castes have opposed the categorisation of SCs for reservation and urged withdrawal of the move. Addressing a press conference on Thursday MLAs -- N. Subramanyam, D. Sambaiah, P. Viswaroop, Vamsi Krishna, K. Narayana Swamy and G.V. Prasad -- said though they initially agreed for the categorisation among Malas and Madigas, their community was mounting pressure on them to maintain status quo. All these MLAs belong to the Mala sub-caste. "We gave our consent for the move earlier out of respect for Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. But, our community is irritated by the manner in which Mallu Ravi, special representative of the State Government in New Delhi, is campaigning against our interest." They also demanded extending the concept of creamy layer to the SCs too. It would be in tune with the dream of Ambedkar who advised the SCs to make use of the reservation provision only once. "Sons and daughters of MLAs, MPs or bureaucrats need not be given reservations", they said. The MLAs said 22 Mala MLAs belonging to the Congress, the TDP and the TRS met at Mr. Subramanyam's quarters on Wednesday to chalk out an action programme to press their demands. The meeting was attended by P. Sujatha, Lalitha Kumar, Jogulu and Sayanna of the TDP and Ganesh and K. Eshwar of the TRS.
