Touch screen information kiosk unveiled at Flower Bazaar; more planned, says Commissioner Nataraj

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday declared open new police station buildings and residential quarters in the city costing Rs. 8.02 crore. She also inaugurated a touch-screen Police Information Centre at the Flower Bazaar police station.

Ms. Jayalalithaa declared open the new Rs. 48 lakh Anna Salai police station, and then inaugurated the police quarters at Purasawalkam, constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.84 crore.

At Flower Bazaar, she inaugurated the Rs. 48 lakh new police station building and unveiled plaques of the new Nungambakkam and Elephant Gate police station buildings, each built at a cost of Rs.36 lakh, the Rs.1.57 crore Assistant Commissioners' quarters at Nungambakkam, and residential quarters at Ambattur and Tambaram, built at a cost of Rs.1.28 crore and Rs.65 lakh respectively.

The Police Information Centre will provide information about the history of the Chennai Metropolitan Police, phone numbers of officials and stations, details of crime prevention, status of the grievance petitions and licences issued by the Commissionerate.

Chief Secretary N. Narayanan, Director-General of Police A.X. Alexander and the city police Commissioner R. Nataraj accompanied the Chief Minister.

The Commissioner told newspersons that similar touch screen information kiosks would be put up at the 15 police stations which had received ISO 9001:2000 certification.

The service would be expanded to other places later. He said a standard format for filing complaints has been provided in the kiosk.
