Belgaum: The Government has upgraded 1,000 km of roads in flood-affected areas of the district, said V. Umesh, Regional Commissioner for North Karnataka. Reviewing the progress of works taken up under the flood-relief programme with officials here on Wednesday, he said 1,500 km of roads were taken up for repair and upgradation by the Public Works Department, the Karnataka Land Army Corporation (KLAC), the zilla panchayat and the Karnataka Slum Development Board. Of the 2,000 government buildings damaged by floods and heavy rainfall, about 1,000 structures belonging to gram panchayats, schools, primary health centres and hostels have been repaired.
Work progressing
He said the Government had taken up 6,322 works, of which 4,409 have been completed. Work on 1,899 cases is progressing. The Government is yet to start work in 14 cases. Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh has asked the Hubli Electricity Supply Company to ensure regular power supply to drinking water supply units in the city. Zilla panchayat CEO M.E. Shivalingmurthy was present at the meeting.
