HASSAN: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has finalised a plan to set up a state-of-the-art training institute on the outskirts of Hassan city at a cost of Rs. 4 crores. The institute, to come up in the Satyamangala area, will have facilities to train KSRTC personnel, Minister for Transport N. Chaluvarayaswamy has said. After inspecting 97 acres of land in the area earmarked for the purpose, he said it has been decided to make use of 70 acres of land to set up the training institute. This institute will have all facilities, including administrative blocks, library, stadium and tracks to train the drivers, he added. He also disclosed that tenders have been floated for the setting up of the institute and work will commence soon. He said it has been planned to construct staff quarters and administrative blocks for the employees in 20 acres of land. The institute aims to train drivers with a view to reducing the accident rate and making optimum utilisation of fuel. The construction work will be completed this year itself. Mr. Chaluvarayaswamy said it has been decided to modernise old bus stands and workshops of the KSRTC in the State in phases. The corporation is making efforts to improve the financial condition of the Hubli and the Gulbarga divisions, which are incurring losses. The corporation is expected to post profit of Rs. 100 crores during this financial year, he said. The former Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, who accompanied the Transport Minister, said it has been planned to construct a new bus stand and commercial complex on the Channapatnakere Tank area at a cost of Rs. 10 crores to meet the demands of the growing city.
