THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The noted Malayalam writer and literary critic M. Krishnan Nair, who had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city, died on Thursday evening. He was 83. He is survived by his wife and five daughters. Krishnan Nair had been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital on Tuesday in a critical condition following pneumonia and heart attack. His condition had worsened on Wednesday. Though the doctors had detected multiple blocks in the arteries, they could not do an angioplasty because of his advanced age and poor health. He continued to be in a critical state and had been on ventilator support. The end came at 4.40 p.m. The body was taken to his residence at Pipinmoodu. Cremation would be held with State honours on Friday.
