NEWCASTLE: Newcastle and Charlton played a 0-0 draw on Wednesday in the English Premier League. Newcastle, playing without the injured Alan Shearer and Kieron Dyer, dominated the first half, but was kept out by Charlton goalkeeper Thomas Myhre. The Magpies' best chance came through Shola Ameobi 14 minutes from the end, when he sent a header over the bar. Darren Bent had Charlton's best chances. The draw ended the three-match winning streak of caretaker Newcastle coach Glenn Roeder, who took over when Graeme Souness was sacked. Charlton is 12th with 34 points, with Newcastle a point and a place below. Chelsea leads the league with 66 points, followed by Manchester United with 54. AP
