Nellore: The bird flu scare is having its effect on chicken sales at Nellore. Though initially the disease was not taken seriously, the glare of publicity in the media has generated awareness among people, resulting in decrease in sales. According to one estimate, sales have come down by 30 per cent and those of eggs by 15 per cent. The district is having an estimated 450 chicken stalls and sales are generally heavy on Sundays. During other days, around 20,000 birds are sold in the district, besides 6 lakh eggs. ry Department. Meanwhile, in order create public awareness, some agencies are planning to hold a meeting of dealers and the public.
