CHENNAI: As the screens gently slid aside to the accompaniment of music and showbiz smoke, leaders of industry, business and regular readers of the The Hindu Business Line applauded to welcome the new-look paper.

The audience reaction at the function to mark the launch of the redesigned Business Line at the Taj Coromandel Hotel on Thursday night was a measure of the goodwill for the redesigned paper: great news for the attractive broadsheet redesigned by Mario Garcia of Garcia Media and his team working with the staff of Business Line, which looked set to be a runaway hit.

Second largest selling

As it emerged, the second largest-selling business daily in the country looked every bit the "more sophisticated, more visual and more contemporary" paper that Dr. Garcia described it to be, in an impressive presentation.

The evening began with an audio-visual presentation on the journey of Business Line through the past 12 years. It employed the metaphor of a pearl diver to describe the business paper's task as going deeper into the sea, to pick up pearls of wisdom .

Commitment

Among the leaders of Indian industry who, through the AV presentation, cheered the paper and its commitment to providing accurate facts included N.R. Narayana Murthy, Chief Mentor, Infosys, K.V. Kamath, CEO, ICICI, and R. Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland.

Star guests

The star guest at the event was Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group, who flew in specially for the function.

A galaxy of the top names in industry were present : they included Venu Srinivasan, M.V. Subbiah, Palani Periaswamy, N. Sankar, N. Kumar, K. Mahesh, S. Viji, Prathap C. Reddy, Mallika Srinivasan. Members of the diplomatic corps were present.
