Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's call to entrepreneurs and industrialists

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Thursday called upon the entrepreneurs and industrialists in the State to take the initiative for tax assessment on their own and show their commitment to social responsibilities by extending benefits to consumers of their products and services.

Ms. Raje, addressing a meeting of the State-level tax consultative committee in the run-up to the Budget session of the Assembly, said the entrepreneurs -- while demanding tax concessions in the Budget -- should clarify about the facilities provided to the people at large following the rebates provided in the previous Budget.

"It will be worthwhile to ask the owners of hotels and tour operators as to what additional facilities have they provided to tourists after the State Government reduced the luxury tax last year,'' Ms. Raje, who also holds the finance portfolio, said.

The Minister of State for Finance, Virendra Meena, senior officials and representatives of business and industrial sectors attended the meeting.

When the marble traders suggested that a uniform bill, cheque and sales tax pattern be implemented all over the State, Ms. Raje sought to know the details of measures taken by them to control the pollution caused by marble slurry.

She suggested that a pollution control project being implemented in Kishangarh be adopted in Makrana, where a large number of mines are functioning, as well.

The representatives of trade bodies gave suggestions regarding establishment of a Tourism Council in the State, improving road transport at tourist spots, according the industry status to the cinema business and abolition of entertainment tax, establishment of a Film Development Board, construction of convention and exhibition centres for various industries and formulation of a comprehensive housing policy.

The sectors represented in the meeting included tourism and hotels, edible oil, food processing, textiles, iron and steel, cinema and cable operators, marble, bullion, gems and jewellery, export and handicrafts, builders and colonisers, and petroleum dealers.

The Chief Minister assured the participants in the meeting that the State Government would make all attempts to incorporate their suggestions in the Budget for the next financial year.
