THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Widows from debt-ridden farmer households in Wayanad are on the warpath seeking support for their families and relief from their debt burden. Hundreds of widows from the district, which had seen the largest number of farmer suicides in the State, will take out a march to the Secretariat on Friday to draw the State Government's attention to their woes. They would leave for Delhi on Saturday to press for waiver of loans granted by nationalised banks to their families. According to Leelamma Jose, coordinator, All India Widows and Destitute Women Movement, which spearheads the agitation, the total debt burden of the widows in the district would come to Rs.30 crores. A solution for the women's woes could be found if the Government would earmark Rs.30 crores out of the Rs.136-crore Wayand Package for clearing the loan arrears, Ms. Jose said.
