THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Agriculture Minister K. R. Gouri clarified here on Thursday that there was no ban on import of poultry or poultry feed from other States except Maharastra. They said that the imports, however, would be subject to conditions. Chicken and ducks could be brought into the State only with certificates from Assistant Directors (Animal Husbandry) of the respective States. There was a total ban on bringing in manure based on chicken droppings. They said all steps were being taken for preventing bird flu in the State. Preliminary investigations showed that chicken had died in Kozhikode and Malappuram because of other diseases. Blood samples had been sent for analysis.
Central directive
The Centre had issued the directive that the tests should not be done in the State, as viruses should be isolated only in specially-equipped laboratories.
