Editor of Senior India arrested

NEW DELHI: The Editor of Senior India, a fortnightly magazine, was arrested by the South Delhi police late on Wednesday night on charges of publishing a cartoon of Prophet Muhammad.

While senior police officers remained tight-lipped over the issue, it is learnt that the Editor, Alok Tomar, was summoned for questioning at the Defence Colony police station after the police were informed that some objectionable material, including the cartoon, had been published in the January 28 issue of the magazine.

After legal consultation, the Defence Colony police registered a case under Sections 153 (A) and 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Mr. Tomar for the publication of "objectionable material" that could incite violence. Police sources said they were now in the process of seizing the copies of the magazine from news stands.
