G. B. Pant awards conferred

NEW DELHI: The annual Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant award for original works in Hindi on subjects pertaining to police and criminal jurisprudence given by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) has been conferred on six writers for 2005-2006. The winners are given Rs. 15,000 for their original works and Rs. 20,000 for writing on a theme chosen by BPRD.

Shankar Saraulia has been awarded Rs. 20,000 for his work on "Privatisation of Police Functions". The other five winners are J.R.Gaud for "Judicial Science-An Introduction", Fareed Bazmi (Computer Crimes), Amar Bahadur Singh and Amar Jyoti Singh (History of the Indian Police System), Om Raj Singh (Police, Crime and Dalits) and R.P. Singh (Investigation).

The theme chosen by BPRD for 2006-2007 is "Alternatives for Prisons and Practical solutions for Prisoner Reforms".

Water supply to be affected

NEW DELHI: Due to major repairs on the Pitampura main pipeline, water supply will remain affected in Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Shalimar Village, Haiderpur Village and Singapur Village on Friday evening.

Water supply will also be affected on Friday at 1112/1632 Janta Hastsal, A-1A Block Janakpuri and 384/GH-1 MIG Paschim Vihar due to flushing of underground reservoir.

Water tankers will be available on telephone: 27302202 (Ashok Vihar), 28525659 (Janakpuri) and 25274679 (Paschim Vihar).

Seminar on myth, magic and history

NEW DELHI: Sahitya Akademi organised an international seminar on "Myth, Magic, History: Contemporary Fiction in Latin America and India" at India International Centre here on Thursday.

Akademi president Gopi Chand Narang said like the South Americans, even Indians share the memories of deprivation, oppression and disgrace combined with an aspiration for freedom, equality and dignity that have become part of our national psyche.
