NEW DELHI: The admission race for Delhi University may be still months away but the Foreign Students' Registry office on the North Campus is already buzzing with activity. Determined to make a lasting first impression, the University is finally giving the jaded office a new look. From a swanky reception that will provide all university-related information to an air-conditioned waiting room, the University is also coming out with a new information brochure for foreign students. "The current office is in a really bad condition. But the Vice-Chancellor took note of it and personally took a lot of interest in initiating the renovation. The idea behind giving the office a new look is to give foreign students a friendly and congenial atmosphere as this is really their first introduction to the campus," says A.S. Narag, the Foreign Students' Adviser. Although the Foreign Students' Registry Office will continue to be situated in the Faculty of Management Studies building, university officials feel the new look will at least ensure that students don't feel alienated in the new environment. "An addition will be a waiting room that will have a seating capacity for about 20 people. Apart from information brochures, it will also have a water dispenser," adds Prof. Narag. As part of the new changes being brought in, the University has also decided to give the information handbook brought out for foreign students a transformation. Delhi University received 2,000 applications from foreign students last year. Of these, only around 1,000 were sent acceptance letters, with nearly 550 students eventually joining various Delhi University colleges.
