HYDERABAD: `To dye or not to dye, that is the question.... age no bar... older workers excel at tech jobs, were statements in the air at a workshop for retired professionals looking at redeploying their competencies afresh. "Whether by writing a book, volunteering or helping, this is a re-employability workshop," Chairperson of CAP-TEEN Channel Nalini Gangadharan told over 100 senior retired professionals who had registered for `Second Career Options' workshop organised by Heritage Foundation. And this workshop had some good news for participants. The entire attitude of the industry seems to have taken a 360-degree turn from August 2005 when opportunities for elders for meaningful work seemed limited. Now the new slogan was `Age is no Bar', `Raise the Skill Bar'. This was evident from the presence of few employers like Bipin Chandra, Vice-President (Operations) of Knoah Solutions from the BPO sector, Mahindra and Mahindra, from manufacturing and Subhohorup Das Gupta, World Tech, from medical transcription. "The entry barriers are lowest if not non-existent in the BPO/KPO world," said Mr. Bipin Chandra. And here employers look for "functional expertise, computer skills, quick learning abilities, communication skills, team work and adaptability to change."
