HYDERABAD : Drug Control Administration sleuths seized spurious drugs worth Rs.10.5 lakh during a raid on Bio-Therapitik Pharmaceuticals at Kompally on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday night. The raid, based on a tip-off, was conducted by DCA Director General V. Dinesh Reddy's Task Force, also saw the equipment used in the manufacture of the spurious drugs, including packing material, being seized. The spurious drugs that were confiscated included Envas 5 and Envas 2.5 tablets, with Batch No.5026 and manufacturing date of August 2005. These tablets are originally manufactured by Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Ahmedabad, according to Task Force drug inspectors -- P. Nagaraju, V. Balanaganjan and P. Sarala.
Samples for analysis
Voveran-50 tablets, manufactured by Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Pune, for drug major Novartis, were also among the clandestinely manufactured tablets seized. DCA Director R. Ranga Rao said samples of the seized drugs were sent for analysis to the Drugs Control Laboratory here. While the reports are yet to come, further investigation into the market presence of these drugs is in progress.
