Doctor commits suicide
According to the police, Bharat had completed his MBBS from Russia, and had been depressed as the degree is not recognised in India, making it impossible for him to practice. Married for a year, Bharat had shifted with his wife to the Ghazipur house six months ago. In the suicide noted addressed to his wife, Bharat reportedly wrote, "may God give you the strength to cope with this incident. I am doing a cowardly act, but I am depressed and have been left with no other alternative". He also made mention of his wife in the third suicide letter that is not addressed to anyone where he said that he was taking the step on his own.
Pirated books seized
Acting on a tip-off that a person named Sanjay was selling pirated books of foreign publishers, the EOW arrested him from Mandawali in East Delhi. At his instance, the police raided two godowns located at Mandawali and the third at Mayur Vihar and recovered a large number of pirated books. The alleged stockist and supplier of the books, identified as Subodh Singh, was arrested at Sanjay's instance. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that hundreds of pirated books had been stocked in a godown at Gharoli village. The police recovered those books and arrested another accused, Upender, from Mayur Vihar Phase-II. Subodh's third accomplice, Krishan Dev, was also arrested during the operation. "We have launched a hunt for the main accused, Mahinder, who illegally printed the books," said the Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW), Prabhakar.
18 held for rioting
The violence was reportedly triggered off by a rumour that two local youngsters had been beaten up by the police staff of the Shahabad diary police post. Senior police officials rushed to the spot and extra force was summoned to control the mob.
