CULTURAL FETE: A scene from the tableau competition at Ragam 06 on NIT-C campus at Chathamangalam, near Kozhikode, on Friday.
KOZHIKODE: The western orchestra contest set the ball rolling on the second day of Ragam 06, the annual cultural extravaganza of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), on its campus, near here, on Friday. Mock press, conducted at the lecture complex, saw students posing as celebrities including Sania Mirza, Bill Clinton and Salman Khan. They tackled questions put to them, and had the audience in splits. JAM (Just a Minute), on the other hand, was a test of the participants' humour and originality. "He who laughs last thinks slow" was one of the witty topics given to the finalists on stage. The software that controlled the proceedings was an ingenious innovation by the NIT-C students that helped reduce human error to the minimum. The light music event was judged by N. Hari, composer, Geetha Devi and Chandra Gopinath from All India Road. The prelims for the coveted titles "Mr and Miss Ragam' 06' were also held. The participants depicted scenes from real life situations as human stills in the tableau event. The informals, handled mainly by the final year students of NIT-C, was a place for the students to unwind and win a few prizes too.
