HYDERABAD: Jawahar Soccer Club won the Ranga Reddy district annual league football championship with a comfortable 3-1 win over Kamala Nehru Nagar in the final round-robin league match at Valerian Grounds (Bolarum) here. The winner led 2-0 at the break, thanks to two headers by right-half Suraj, first off a pass from left-out Louis and then from right-out Sanjay. In the second session, Sanjay scored the third goal for the winners while Amit reduced the margin for the loser. In another match, Valluvarnagar scored a 2-1 win against Alwal Youth Club with Pramod and Shiva Kumar scoring for the victor while Qadir scored the consolation goal for the losers. Though Jawahar Club and Valluvarnagar finished the league with seven points each the former was declared winner by virtue of better goal average. Kamala Nehru Nagar finished third in final standings.
Savita to lead
Savita Nirala will lead Andhra Pradesh in the National invitation women's cricket tournament to be held in Bangalore from February 26 to 28. The team: Savita Nirala (capt), Geeta (vice-capt), Mamata Kanuja, Soujanyanath, Archanadas, Shalini, Rameswari, Uma Maheshwari, Radhika, Dhanalakshmi, Salma, Aruna, Ghousia, Durga Bhavani, Neelima and Suhasini. Coach: Sekhar Raju. ManagerL: Dr.Raghurami Reddy.

10K Foundation awards
The Mission Sports venture of the Hyderabad 10K Foundation will felicitate five outstanding sports personalities of yesteryear besides a distinguished coach, a sports administrator and a veteran journalist, at a function to be held in Hyderabad on Saturday afternoon, according to coordinator and former All England badminton champion Pullela Gopi Chand. The five sportspersons are Dharmalingam Kannan and Md Yousuf Khan (football), L.A. Iqbal (ball badminton), Satyanarayana (hockey) and Pratap Kumar (athletics). K. Komuriah of Warangal district will receive the `outstanding coach' award and prominent chess personality Nasiruddin Ghalib the `best sports administrator' award. Veteran scribe Eka Venkata Subba Rao of Guntur will receive the award for his contribution to sports journalism.
