GUNTUR: Practising lawyers, representatives of all political parties will hold a round table conference here on Saturday to build a public opinion/movement to demand setting up of High Court Bench here. Andhra Pradesh was the only State without a Bench of High Court established anywhere outside its headquarters, said Bar Association vice-president Munnangi Sambi Reddy.
Benefit for litigants
While 72 per cent of the cases tried in the High Court were from outside the Telangana region, having a Bench at Guntur would provide access to all litigants from Nellore to Srikakulam districts, he told reporters.
MPs, MLAs invited
The organising committee led by politicians like Singam Basavapunnaiah and Yelamanchili Shivaji, has invited MLAs, MPs, people from all walks of life to the round-table conference at Hotel Sindhoori. Retired Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Ambati Lakshman Rao is among the prominent people from the judiciary to attend the meet, Mr. Sambi Reddy said.
