Doctors urged to be adaptable

CHENNAI: Doctor/health care practitioner in the modern world should be flexible, adaptable and ready to encompass a climate of frequent change, said Steven Hla Myint, Dean of Medicine, University of Surrey.

Delivering the convocation address at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Porur, on Thursday, he said, "A 21st Century health care practitioner requires not only the technical skills of diagnosis and treatment but also relational skills of communication, team-working, developing themselves and others and general management." In his welcome address, S.S.K. Marthandam, Vice-Chancellor of the deemed university, said the institution offered 85 courses in various disciplines and 812 students had graduated this year.

The institution has more than 3,500 students. The overall pass percentage in the outgoing batch is 94.95, he said. Thirty-eight students received medals for academic excellence.
