NEW DELHI: President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on Friday dedicated the Army Wide Area Network (AWAN) to the nation here. The network will connect all Army formations, units, training establishments and logistic installations in the country. It will provide secure exchange of information directly from one user to another without intermediate manual handling or intervention and enable data exchange services including audio and video. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kalam said AWAN is an important defence requirement for e-governance. The network will encompass the entire defence services and ensure inter linkages with other Government departments. The President congratulated the team of Corps of Signals and Tata Consultancy Services for completing the project on time. Chief of Army Staff J. J. Singh said AWAN was among the first major initiatives undertaken to prepare the Army for fighting in the digital battle space.
