Temple car work begins

Rs. 30 lakh earmarked for the project, which has begun at Tiruvottiyur


CHENNAI: Work on the new car project began at the Vadivudai Amma - Sri Thiagarajar temple at Tiruvottiyur in north Chennai on Saturday.

Earlier this month the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had stated that Rs.39 lakh would be sanctioned for renovation of two temples and a temple car in Tiruvallur district.

Of this Rs.30 lakh was earmarked for making a wooden car for the Vadivudai Amman-Thiagarajar Swamy temple to replace the old temple car, which was in a bad shape.

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, P.C. Ramasamy inaugurated the project on Saturday at the temple.

Mandapam renovation

In Tiruvallur district, the government has also sanctioned Rs.2 lakh from the Common Good Fund for renovation of the "vasanta mandapam" at the Kodiyidai Amman-Masilamaneeswarar temple at Tirumullaivoyil.
